What is meant by photolytic decompostion reaction and provide two examples.
A reaction in which
single compound breaks down into simpler substances by absorption of light
single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances when heated
one element replaces another element in a compound
two or more simple substances combine to form a single compound
is known as photolytic decomposition reaction.
Example:
\(2AgCl → 2Ag + Cl_2\)
\(HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H_2O\)
\(ZnO + C → Zn + CO\)
\(CaCO_3 → CaO + CO_2\)
and
\(2AgBr → 2Ag + Br_2\)
\(2Na + Cl_2 → 2NaCl\)
\(Zn + CuSO_4 → ZnSO_4 + Cu\)
\(ZnO + C → Zn + CO\)
