A school science club organised an activity to help students understand the property of malleability. Four different materials—aluminium, copper, iron, and sulfur—were tested by gently hammering each sample.
The students carefully observed the results.
  • The aluminium sample became thinner and wider without breaking.
  • The copper sample also spread into a thin sheet after repeated hammering.
  • The iron sample changed its shape and formed a flat sheet.
  • The sulfur sample broke into small pieces after a few hammer strikes.
Based on these observations, the teacher explained that malleability is the property of a material by which it can be beaten into thin sheets without breaking. This property helps in making useful products such as aluminium foil, metal containers, roofing sheets and decorative metal sheets.
