Answer the
given question below
:
1.
What happens when oxygen reacts with copper and carbon. What are the main differences in the nature of products formed?
i. Reaction of
copper
with oxygen:
Forms copper sulphide which is acidic in nature
Forms copper oxide which is basic in nature
Forms copper oxide which is acidic in nature
Forms copper hydride which is acidic in nature
Reaction:
\(2Cu + O_2 \to 2CuH\)
\(2Cu + O_2 \to 2CuO\)
\(2Cu + N_2 \to 2CuO\)
\(2CU + H_2 \to 2CuH\)
ii. Reaction of
carbon
with oxygen:
Forms carbon dioxide which is basic in nature
Forms carbon hydride which is acidic in nature
Forms carbon dioxide which is acidic in nature
Forms carbon hydroxide which is acidic in nature
Reaction:
\(C + O_2 \to CO_4\)
\(C + O_2 \to CCl_2\)
\(C + H_2 \to CH_2\)
\(C + O_2 \to CO_2\)
