Saturated solution
:
It contains the minimum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a solvent at given temperature
It does not contain solvent to dissolve solute at given temperature
It contains the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a solvent at given temperature
It does not contain solute that can be dissolved in a solvent at given temperature
Appearance:
Extra solute floats on top
Extra solute cannot be seen
Extra solute is visible at bottom
Extra solute is dissolved completely
Example:
\(36 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(30 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(33 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(31 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
ii.
Unsaturated solution
:
It contains excess solute than solvent can dissolve in given temperature
It contains more solute than solvent can dissolve in given temperature
It contains excess amount of solute than solvent can dissolve in given temperature
It contains less solute than solvent can dissolve in given temperature
Appearance:
Solute particles can be seen through naked eyes
Solute particles settles at bottom
Solute particles are visible
Looks like a clear solution
Example:
\(48 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(36 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(20 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
\(39 \g\) of salt dissolved in \(100 \ml\) of water at \(25°C\)
