Scattering of light
Question:
3
m.
Answer the following question:
Explain how the size of scattering particles affects the colour of scattered light.
The colour of scattered light depends on the
size of the particles
colour of the light source
temperature of the atmosphere
distance between the observer and the light source
causing scattering.
Hence,
very fine particles scatter shorter wavelengths
very fine particles scatter longer wavelengths
very fine particles scatter all wavelengths equally
very fine particles absorb shorter wavelengths
like blue light.
If the particles are large enough to scatter all colours of light, the
scattered light appears white
scattered light appears black
scattered light appears red
scattered light appears blue
