If eight times the eighth term is equal to twelve times the twelfth term, show that four times the twentieth term is zero.

Proof:

Given,

8 \times t_{i} = 12 \times t_{i}

\Rightarrow 8 (i + (i - i) i) = 12 (i + (i - i) i)

[Since

t_{n} = i + (i - i) i

]

\Rightarrow 8 (i + i i) = 12 (i + i i)

On expanding and solving the above equation, we get:

i (i + i i) = 0

\Rightarrow i (a + (i - i) d) = 0

\Rightarrow 4 \times t_{i} = 0

Hence, proved.
